Event Description

On June 5th, we all have a date with the planet.

After freezing together, how about (global) warming up over what looks to be an amazing film, HOME.

The movie is an invitation to discover the wealth and diversity of our planet while exploring major social and environmental issues. Home was made by Yann Arthus-Bertrand, famous through the “Earth From Above,” aerial photographic portraits of our planet (that were on exhibition in Waitangi Park), and co-produced by EuropaCorp, Luc Besson’s company.

"If we can improve the images of the world, perhaps we can improve the world." - Wim Wenders

In 200,000 years on Earth, humanity has upset the balance of the planet, established by nearly four billion years of evolution. The price to pay is high, but it’s too late to be a pessimist: humanity has barely ten years to reverse the trend, become aware of the full extent of its spoliation of the Earth’s riches and change its patterns of consumption.

"We've tried everything, except love".
- Théodore Monod

HOME will be a major event all over the globe: for the first time ever, a film will be released on the same day, copyright-free and mostly free of charge in over 50 countries and on every format, in movie theatres, TV, DVD and Internet.

(If you'd like to help organize, please get in touch!)

Update: Peter Barrett of Victoria University's Antarctic Research Centre has kindly agreed to say a few words before the film HOME by Yann Arthus-Bertrand this Friday in Wellington.

In Wellington HOME will screen on Friday June 5 between 6 - 8 pm at the Ilott Theatre (ground floor Wellington Town Hall, Wakefield Street) thanks to the generosity of the Wellington City Council.

It will also screen free of charge in nine other cities in New Zealand (e.g. at the City Gallery in Christchurch etc.) so encourage your friends and family nationwide to contact their local Alliance Française website or office for details. This film will not be advertised, so we are relying on word of mouth to attract the audience. All are welcome.

PLEASE NOTE that you can collect your free ticket at the Alliance Française in Wellington beforehand to be sure of a seat, or you can take your chances on the night on a first come, first served basis. Alliance Française de Wellington, Level 3, 78 Victoria Street, in the Old Dominion Building (green building diagonally across from the entrance to Civic Square) Ph. 472 1272.

The Alliance Française is sponsoring a screening at Ilott Theatre. Free tickets are available at the reception of Alliance Française, Dominion Building, 78 Victoria Street.

It's a two hour flight over the planet, no interviews or talking heads, just observing the Earth with music and commentary.
