Profile Information

About Me:
I'm a writer, film maker, investor and artist. I'm a proponent of solutions for the new period we're entering; where values and value have a segue; where business ethics isn't an oxymoron.

Until May I was driving communications at the Sustainable Business Network where I've seen a surge in business awareness of our human peril.

Now I'm developing an investment fund called Wellspring that will provide financial energy for businesses to take more radical steps toward values-driven work and projects.

I'm always keen to see more art engaging with these future-based issues in NZ! See below for the link to The Water Show in Chch for an excellent example -

I have a very loving husband and two great youngsters, one (aged 4) who makes me laugh so hard I fall off my chair. The other (6) is designing a plane which sucks in CO2 and expels oxygen.

ps: about the photo. It's my great grandparents near Paekakariki. Just over 100 years ago. Looks like a nice pace to get about at, doesn't it?

Surprise!

You’re invited to our last Intersect Face-to-Face of 2009. There will be sharing of ideas and the usual inspiration and connection, but this one is a little bit Christmas flavoured and it’s all about giving.

There will be surprise gifts, crafty activities, ideas for 'sustainable' gifts and conversations about giving. You can get involved in any way that suits you - even if it's just to meet a few more people and enjoy some tasty treats.

...Pssst...pass it on!
Why not surprise someone from the Wellington Intersectors and post this invite on their profile?

Cheers!

Hey Sophie, yeah I'm feeling the same way about the tsunami, and am wondering what postive things we can do from here to help out. I've asked my friends in the Samoan community in Wellington to let me know when they start doing fundraising actions or anything, so will keep you posted. It's horrible to feel so useless from here...

Hi Sophie - I too am keen to see art posing some answers to our ecological dilemmas. As an environmental artist I make art & trashion from junk - great as fundraisers!

Hey Sophie, did I ever respond to this message? No, I haven't seen the Lair of the White Worm but the title really makes me giggle this morning for some reason, and I think it has something to do with Hugh Grant too. Does he play the white worm? Is the white worm quite posh? And a bit stuttery? x

Hi Sophie,

Some of those statements seem simplistic (extreme)... however, it is worth reading along to the end. Community currencies are different to conventional "money", in that they are tied to the local economy. I find his comments on community (later on) also hard to accept. However, this relate to the un-responsiveness of larger "communities" and cities, to resource scarcity and the environment. His summary points would provide a great base for a series of forums!

Very best wishes... and hope we can have the chance to talk over sometime.

Hi Sophie
yeah I'm in Welly too. i worked a bit in my old job at the Sustainability Trust with mums in Porirua donig cloth nappy workshops and nappy making workshops and we also set up a cloth nappy hire kit there for the Porirua area. Would be great to talk about other ideas and also doing some of that stuff here in Wellington.

Hooray. I've converted quite a few people to the goodness of tofu with this recipe. I'm sure it'll turn out yum as. Don't skimp on the ginger, garlic and tamari and you can't lose.... Good luck.
