About Me:
An English literature graduate from Otago University, I live in Wellington and ponder whatever to do next. I wrote my honours dissertation on transgressing and blurring boundaries in late-nineteenth century feminist socialist utopian fiction. I am an avid gardener, although my little potted garden on my tiny urban deck doesn't quite match my fantasies of a sprawling organic paradise, nor my memories of growing up in the bush in West Auckland.
Areas of interest and expertise
I love to delve into cultural theory and have a special place in my heart for gender, sexuality and feminist literature and debate. I love writing and language-related activity. I am also interested in my new bicycle, travel, aid work, literacy, teaching English, sustainability, and probably several things I have not yet come across.

I currently work in recruitment and communications for an independent economics research think tank in Wellington called Motu, where I have learned lots of interesting things about some of the issues surrounding environmental policy (www.motu.org.nz).I am also involved with Refugee Services (www.refugeeservices.org.nz) in Wellington, and world wide climate change movement 350 (www.350.org.nz).

Surprise!

You’re invited to the last Face-to-Face event for Wellington Intersect members in 2009. This one is festive flavoured and it’s all about giving.

There will be surprise gifts, crafty activities, ideas for 'sustainable' gifts and conversations about giving. All the details are here:
http://intersect.ning.com/events/wellington-facetoface-last-one

Pssst...pass it on!
Why not surprise someone from the Wellington Intersectors and share this invite on their profile?

Cheers!

hi rhylie - thanks for your beautifully crafted words on that post about travel. "let's spread our sails" seems like a perfect phrase for the islands of aotearoa. i still like the metaphor of spreading our wings (=growing into who we are?) but maybe the focus could shift to ways we can spread our wings without taking flight.

Hi Rhylie

Unless you or a friend is traveling up we can only really get things from Auckland. If you want your things to do something other than gather dust in an op shop I'd suggest checking out

http://www.refugeeservices.org.nz/

or http://www.donatenz.co.nz/

All the best

Hi Rhylie,
The workshop is at Kotare, an hour north of Auckland. We will have people travelling from different parts of the country and can sometimes provide travel assistance.

Muse loves to recieve content! We are in the process of getting online, but that is likely to take a wee while. There are copies of all 6 issues of muse at the Welly library. We are always on the look out for keen women to join the collective as well. If you would like to meet up for a coffee to have a chat about muse, I'm always up for that. I live in Wgtn, but I'm away a lot. I'm here tomorrow and Thursday if you are in town and free, otherwise I get back on the 20th.

Cheers!

Hi Rhylie. Kotare Trust - Research and Education for Social Change is running a Research for Social Justice workshop on Friday 31st of July and Saturday 1st August. The Kotare centre is at a special spot an hour north of Auckland. If you are interested and would like to know more, get in touch and I can send you the panui. Also, I wonder if you know about Muse Magazine, a small feminist zine by young women for young women that is created in Wellington. If you are keen to know more about that, also feel free to get in touch. Cheers! Tanya

I doubt we can get any cooler.

Although I do wonder why "intersect" was chosen. Converge, crisscross and decussate would've also been good options. (I possibly may have gone a little thesaurus crazy...).
