About Me:
I am a happy and busy citizen of planet earth!

In my day job I am owner and director of Alto, a visual communication design company with a focus on sustainability and cultural transformation.

I’ve got the hots for web-based interaction that is community and participation-centric that empowers users to 'network' their butts off. I am also interested how deep that networking can be.

I can now call myself a Social Entreprenuer, because i looked at wikipedia, and it describes all other 'stuff' I do.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_entrepreneurship

I currently serve as the chair of the Sustainability Trust. Our trust enables people to adopt new sustainable behaviours. www.sustaintrust.org.nz

I have helped establish a young professionals network called Intersect for young(ish) people who are passionate about cultural transformation and sustainability. www.intersect.org.nz

My favourite things about the ‘new world’ that I see emerging around me today; a culture of care, new and remembered social processes, the opportunities for connection and meaning that the quest for ‘sustainability’ creates, deeply happy people who hold complexity with grace.

I also love the ukulele. It is a significant part of creating a happier world. www.ukulele.co.nz

Just for the love of it

“To be thrown upon one’s own resources, is to be cast into the very lap of fortune; for our faculties then undergo a development and display an energy of which they were previously unsusceptible.

I have been making some pretty radical statements about how the future is set to change, and asserting that we have to prepare ourselves for this. Not only… Continue

“That was by far the most enjoyable political debate I have ever seen,” chirped MC Mikey Havoc. This unlikely statement was uttered as he closed the Young Leaders Debate, hosted in the New Zealand capital just eight days before t… Continue

Random Acts of Gardening

On Saturday morning, Aaron Packard and i grabbed our gardening gloves, a spade and watering can and ventured out into our community to find a garden to tend.

On Cleveland St, we found an older woman in her shed if she needed some assistance with her garden. She either thought we were students wanting to be paid money for gardening or else we were Christians and declined our offer. Fair… Continue

Hey Megan

I wondered if Alto already has Fair Trade coffee/tea/sugar in your cafeteria/kitchen for staff... if you don't, you should and if you do, get yourselves signed up to be recognised as Fair Trade - www.fairtrade.org.nz/FTAANZ/fairtradecommunities

It's all about corporate social responsibility after all, right?

Just follow the online instructions and fax/email the Fair Trade workplace application form to the Fair Trade Association saying that Alto:
a) Uses Fair Trade certified products in your cafeteria/meetings;
b) Will promote Fair Trade in your workplace.
Form: http://www.fairtrade.org.nz/files/workplace%20application%20form.pdf

Whoah - did I mention it was FREE???!!!
Fair Trade certified products are not only better for the producers, they taste great too :)

And of course you have already signed the e-petition to make Wellington a Fair Trade City - http://www.wellington.govt.nz/haveyoursay/e-petitions/ep/details/76 - great!

Hope you are all well - Vanisa

Hi Megan,

I just posted some info about UNICEF's Kiwi Climate Callout (see http://www.unicef.org.nz/page/282/KiwiClimateCallOut.html). I'd be keen to talk to you about other ways to promote this through youth and environmental networks you may know about.

Cheers,
Sarah

Hey Megan,
I was wondering if Frocks on Bikes may be interested in doing a ride in support of the Basin Reserve? Critical Mass have expressed some interest in doing a ride around the Baisn to publicise the Regional Land Transport Committee's plans to build a flyover that will go around the northern end of the park, linking the Mt Victoria tunnel with Buckle Street. The flyover is the next step in the highway the council want to run out to the airport and should they build it, it will inevitably lead to duplication of the Mt Victoria Tunnel at a cost of >$175 million. If you're interested in more info, please check out: http://savethebasin.org.nz/

Cheers,
Charlie.

Hi Megan - Thanks for the message and nice to connect on intersect. I would be happy to be part of the strategic group. I will be in Wellington for the second half of this year anyway, and possibly longer depending on decisions and logistics. Ekodo has been fun, and it is really the product of the wealth of wisdom that participants bring to it. The food is great too. I will be at the climate change action (Hikurangi) hui at the end of the month and may see you there if you are attending. See ya, Sean

Hoi Megan, just wondering about whether we could make another option under the 'dates' part of the event posting page. The dates that i've got up there are wrong/ missleading... as you know we have various dates for Wgtn, Chch and Kapiti...Is there a way to change it so that it just says 'Various' on the little info snippet on our main page etc?
Choice, Friday went well!
