Profile Information

About Me:
As an environmental artist and activist I work mainly with recycled materials to raise awareness of the importance of waste minimization, recycling, & the conservation of the natural world.
My aim is to inspire people to take personal responsibility for their own environmental footprint, & to encourage them to “make a difference”.
From my home on the North Shore in Auckland, New Zealand, I collect detrius from the global scrapheap to make into recycled art & trashion.
I also assist businesses to present their “green” credentials by making corporate art from their packaging or recycled materials to display in their lobby, or for promotional gifts.

My interest in trash began when I was five years old living on Hobsonville Air Base, near the tip - where we kids found old aircraft parts. Later, in the early ‘70’s, I worked in Wellington as a garbage collector, and then travelled the world making and selling jewellery made from found objects for over twenty years.
I seem to have been talking rubbish all my life!

My work is in private collections all over the world, and can be seen online at www.martinadlington.webs.com
Areas of interest and expertise
many aspects of art'n'crafts, including gilding, screenprinting, collage, & assemblage; beachcombing, dumpster diving, recycling, trashion

Hi Martin,

Thanks for participating in my survey. Just coming back to you on a few of your comments as requested. Nope this site will not be funded by Mike Tindall - was unaware that he was promoting himself as the face of sustainability!

Yep, I'm interested in knowing more about your trashion label and ways we can promote consumer sustainability to appeal to a mainstream audience. Stay in touch and keep me posted. My site will be going live in March.

Best regards,
Jo

I'd totally be keen!
Hey I've still got those earrings. Unfortunately trying to sell them at school didn't really get off the ground because most people only bring like lunch money to school and everyone forgot about bringing more for them so :S Do you want them back or do you want me to still try to sell them?

Waiheke recycled art show should be fun! Heres to good weather and some fine art! :) I really like the idea of this group. Would you or any one else in the group be intersted in contributing some stuff to etch on this topic? Have you read http://stylewithscruples.com/ - cool eco-fashion blogger.
