It seems strange that the GDC say they dont have any say over other waste streams and where they are tipped. If they could have a say in this it would make all the difference. Certainly other councils that I am dealing with get to state where the waste in their areas ends up, including all industry. I'll keep working on it, and thanks so much for your help.

Thanks for the info. The smallest plants that we deal with are 200 Ton Per Day, this is because you need the quantity of waste in order to pay for the machinery.....anything smaller and they're just too expensive. Hence why they often need to be regionalised in NZ i.e attract waste streams from several areas. I am working with a large company down there that might be interested, if so all the local rubbish could go there. I'll keep you posted.
I'm impressed with the conversation you've been having with your mate in Maori. I grew up just outside of Ruatoki, near Taneatua and studied Maori at High School.....am useless now though much to my embarrassment. Living in Auckland does that, it can be pretty void of culture.

that would be really helpful. in my experience with other councils they also have info on waste quantities from local industry i.e wood processing, forestry, food processing maybe? this can help to bulk up the waste volumes. these sorts of projects almost need to become regional in NZ to be viable i.e Gisborne has the plant but attracts waste from East Cape, Hawkes Bay etc

Hey Manu

might be best to chat over the phone at some point if thats ok with you? The kinds of info that I require are mostly around quantity of waste collected in the region per week, and the various waste streams that might be available i.e MSW (municipal solid waste) which is your general household collections, chemical waste from industry? medical waste from hospitals/doctors? where do the tyres from the region get tipped? sewage sludge? electrical circuit boards? PCB's? wood waste? Agricultural waste? all of this can be tipped into the technology that we are proposing. The important thing to note is that we use pyrolysis, and not incineration....a big difference with regard to emissions etc, so no furans or dioxins and almost zero emissions altogether. And the process is done anaerobically so no oxygen present, so no chance of combustion which has been a problem in the past.

As long as there is a reasonable quantity of waste, and there is an interest from the council for the technology, then I can source the funding necessary to get the project of the ground, which is where the problem has been in the past.

I have a couple of councils that are currently looking at the technology in the area, one of which was hoping to get the waste from the Hawkes Bay/Gisborne region as it drives straight past them at the moment. But first in first served, if you can help me get the interest from the council then lets get one of these operational in Gisborne.

Feel free to call, or send me your number and i'll call you 09 3632932/021 907558

thanks

Angela

Hi Manu

Thanks for your email, waste to energy is exactly what we do, and as far as I am aware, the waste in Gisborne is currently being tipped in Tirohia, so not only is the waste going to landfill, its also traveling miles so it has a double impact on our poor environment!

I would be happy to talk with you further about what we can do, and you may have advice on the best people to contact within council in the Gisborne region.

Cheers

Angela
