if anybody happens to be in Melbourne or Sydney in October they may be interested in this symposium on Authentic Leadership. I don't know any of the speakers myself but appreciated their leading comment that links leadership to our ability to trans…

oh Yum!! this ties together so much of what i care about... i had just written a post in the leadership group that points to this - though a little more upstream - that is, about empowering individuals to first understand that they *can* create, and…

Manu, I really appreciate the reference to Wheatley's article thank you! (I have found her writing in this area - see her books - quite superior in terms of her understanding of the *organic* possibilities already present in each moment - increased…

great! we're actually having our annual intersect plotting session this weekend in auckland, so i've put 'going global' on the agenda as something to explore. i suspect there will be some wariness about stretching too far too soon, mixed with a desire to keep the spirit of intersect alive by continuing to build it through people we know and trust well. we can start building the bridges now though - and after following this conversation between you and edward today i sense that we're all in a very similar space :). actually, i'm grateful to you both for reminding me i can embrace my non-titled self in my synthesising! i'm keen to have a conversation over skype when i'm back from auckland / after a workshop i'm doing next week. all the best till then, nick.

kia ora ano kali, and yes... it was like looking in a mirror when i read many of the descriptions on your profile! we should definitely explore some cross-tasman connecting.

i've actually been getting increasingly excited about the idea of building the connections across the tasman sea through intersect at some point. we've got lots of friends on the big brown continent (mostly in melbourne), but it's beyond our reach to create anything in aus right now with our existing resources (plus it's good to focus on the community in aotearoa). i sometimes wonder about setting up a separate 'intersect australia' networking site, so let me know if you reckon it could be a goer! not that it needs to have intersect branding, but the recipe seems to be working well in nz so far...

Hi Kali,

Sorry for the confusion - you will just have got a message from my girlfriend instead of from me! I logged into intersect through the email link but our computer had Liv's details lined up and I just hit enter so i accidently logged in as her! Feeling a bit stupid ....!

Hi Kali,

Thanks for your message - I must say that you look to be much more active on intersect than I am! I'm living in Sweden at the moment.

An area that I've become more interested in since leaving government is groups of people setting up organisations/businesses to produce and consume a better (more sustainable) product/service than is currently offered. Examples are the organic food co-ops, or a car share/hire system so people don't need to own a car but can still use one occasionally when they need to. These kind of initiatives are usually started by small groups but if they are successful they need to grow and possibly need some kind of regional/national funding or infrastructural support. I think this could tie in well with your sustainable business ideas - effectively they are just a different business model.

This thinking comes out of the Sustainable Consumption (and Production) processes which have a much higher profile in Europe than in NZ and I assume Aussie as well.

Good luck with your conference ideas

I like your description too:

"professional generalist (or synthesiser)"

At TedGlobal they called for the need for interdiscpinary thinkers. Roman Krzanic, A teacher at The School of Life in London, talks about the need for wide-achievers, not just high-achievers. Wide thinkers rather than specialised thinkers. Have a look at his ebook - The Art of Living.

Reinforces another idea that I had: that its ok to be interested in everything. You don't need to specilize in something - that is a model of industrial economy. Synthesisers still patterns, make connections, provide new insights.

I am becoming more content with the idea that semantics are irrelevant to define my identity. You define yourself - and change it whenever you see fit. You don't need a job title or description to validate your existence.

Have you seen Alain De Botton Ted Talk? Have a watch of it. Its awesome
