Hello folks, I just saw The Age of Stupid, and how can I not join this discussion group. I need inspiration and ideas, to help me avoid flying.
In many ways it is a decision that makes me feel like I have to choose family or the planet, eh? I mean...
We love the freedom of cheap air travel but we love our climate (and the people it supports) much more.
This group is dedicated to the exploration of low carbon travel and the joys that come from choosing quality over expedience.

Caryatids, the new one by Bruce Sterling. It is a near future look at results of three ways to respond to the current eco-crisis. It was a good read, fascinating for ideas but not preachy.
Another to watch for is the latest by Margaret Atwood, so...
This is a place where individuals and groups can be in communication around imagining and designing what a good future would be like, rather than one trying to be a little less bad.

I reckon Climate Camp will be a really amazing experience. I haven't been to one but I really like the principles and objectives of the Camp. You can join the announcements list and working group mailing lists on the website www.climatecamp.org.nz
There are a couple of newsletters of the website now that give some info of the camp and what's been happening around the country.
The site will only be announced a few days before the camp but I guess some indication of area will be given before then? Not sure about that though. The site will be relatively close to Wellington.
There will be a film screening later this month in Wellies at the Newtown community centre. That should be announced on the announcement mailing list.

Wow I didn't know there were many 'Greenies' in Palmy! I worked there for a few years and studied there before that. I always found being Green a little of an uphill battle... nice to know it does exist. The next time I'm coming through I might have to track you down for a coffee - it's pretty close to home for me (Pahiatua) so you never know :)
