Education for Sustainability is currently made a lot easier by the new curriculum, within a primary school setting. Although it isnt explicitly compulsory, it is very much easily integrated into all facets of the learning areas.

About Me:
I have been working on social marketing projects for the last two years as the Social Marketing Manager for the New Zealand Herald. I have been working with research companies who give charities and social issues demographic profiles. Then I try and link them to brands that are targeting that market. The brand gets an opportunity to engage its target market in meaningful way, that profoundly increases brand loyalty, and the charity gets a voice in main stream media -that it otherwise could not afford.

Advertising is one of the main reasons why we are in this mess. The industry has spent generations preying on our insecurities and greed to sell us products that we don’t need .But media and advertising can also be designed to lure the very best out of human nature. We can strategically target segments of society to try and improve the world we live in–and try to solve social and environmental issues. This is the basis of social marketing.

I am a strong advocate for social marketing and triple bottom line business structures. I am now working for HB media (publishers of Idealog & AUT media) as the Business Development & Social Marketing manager for New Zealand’s first carbon neutral social marketing magazine called “Good.”

Good’s editor is Francesca Price (wasted TV presenter), and our head designer Adrain Claperton, was the head designer for Urbis.

I would love to meet more people who are passionate about the people, planet, and profit ethos.

Cheers

It's just that Earthships are always proposed for rural sites and aren't really a solution for todays mega cities.

Hi Gavin
Welcome to Intersect! You can add events, videos, create discussion and groups and invite your friends and colleagues to join. It's your network, so use it in ways that will support your networking, and contact us if there is something we can help with.

It makes the networking a lot easier when people pop up a profile photo - so I encourage you to do this when you have a moment. And I promise I'll say hi if I bump into you in the supermarket!

There is a Group for Aucklanders, so you might want to get in amongst that action!

Kind regards, Megan and the Intersect crew
