I just finished reading Margaret Atwood's new one, "The Year of the Flood." It just came out in bookstores and libraries at 26 Sept. It is a very loose sequel to her "Oryx and Crake," examining a post-apocalyptic world from after genetic engineer...

One of the best I have ever read is an oldie but a goodie - Riddley Walker, by Russell Hoban. It's quite hard going (it's written in it's own phonetic dialect, so best consumed in long bursts over a short period) but it really is an exceptional fe...

Caryatids, the new one by Bruce Sterling. It is a near future look at results of three ways to respond to the current eco-crisis. It was a good read, fascinating for ideas but not preachy. Another to watch for is the latest by Margaret Atwood, so...

We love the freedom of cheap air travel but we love our climate (and the people it supports) much more. This group is dedicated to the exploration of low carbon travel and the joys that come from choosing quality over expedience.

Can I kick off with some questions? What does leadership really mean? I know it does not mean telling people what to do. Does it mean setting an example? Does it mean setting out a vision and hoping people agree with it? What if they don't?

Hi Chris
Surprise!

You’re invited to our last Intersect Face-to-Face of 2009. There will be sharing of ideas and the usual inspiration and connection, but this one is a little bit Christmas flavoured and it’s all about giving.

There will be surprise gifts, crafty activities, ideas for 'sustainable' gifts and conversations about giving. You can get involved in any way that suits you - even if it's just to meet a few more people and enjoy some tasty treats.

...Pssst...pass it on!
Why not surprise someone from the Wellington Intersectors and post this invite on their profile?

Cheers!
Megan

Hi Chris & others
This along with all the other events organised by folks passionate about our environment are extremely comendable. 100% support from me.
An observation...lol - why chose to stage this one for an hour on a Saturday when the vast majority of workplaces & businesses will be closed. Hopefully all their building lights bar those left switched on for safety will be turned off as a matter or routine.
Keep on trucking....

Hi Chris,
Doing something about large scale action planning in early 2010.
According to http://earthhour2010.com/, it says that Earth hour 2010 is on 28th and it also says 29th March.
Is there a confirmed date for 2010?
Warmest,
Carl

Well, i guess i should of said my last day in New Zealand is Friday. I'll be back at 9607 Lyndonway Drive
Richmond, Virginia 23229 USA
I understand shipping to the states isn't too cheap, so I would totally understand if it didn't make it over to me. If it does, I'll take a medium, if not, i pass my shirt to a worthy recipient of your choice! thanks!

thanks Chris. It's great to find another great use for the surfeit of cabbage apart from applying to the swollen breasts of new mothers.

The panda's speak highly of their humans, I'm pleased to make your acquaintance and glad to see you aren't associated with those nasty Orcas. Eating bamboo is much better than eating penguins.
