There are some great traffic calming ideas on this website from the UK http://www.roadwitch.org.uk/ Maybe we could have a go at some of these in Auckland?

Park(ing) on a massive scale. It would be cool to do this somewhere in NZ, maybe on the Auckland harbour bridge or another big main road. and btw I have to say that I'm intensely jealous of Sydney's bridge. Trains and footpaths! Awesome.

These are my photos of what I chanced upon in High Street on my trip up to Auckland.

Great work everyone!

Great work Nick and friends in Nelson! I love you space and free treats. Very stylish use of hay :)

Great work from the big cities - love the fish pond and swingball! A friend and I decided fairly spontaneously to knock together a park(ing) space in inner city Nelson and it came together beautifully - an urban garden popped up in the morning and we gave out free gardening advice, cups of tea and packets of seeds for sowing with wild abandon. What fun. There's a nice article on the Nelson Marlborough District Health Board's 'Healthy As' blog: http://www.healthyas.org.nz/2009/09/parking-day/ Thanks for the heads-up Intersect folk!

Hi Park(ing) Peeps. Congratulations everyone who contributed to a fantastic Park(ing) Day, the first ever in NZ! I've started a discussion called Park(ing) Day Aotearoa 2009. What did we learn? I think it would be useful to collect our experiences of what worked well and what we'd do differently next time. I'd also love to hear some of your highlights and favourite moments of the day.

A huge thank you and well done to the Heart of Auckland City crew, especially Nat and Janine, for your fabulous organising!

There's a set of Auckland photos here on flickr.

Here's some more photos from Wellington (from a bigger set on Flickr tagged as "parkingday Wellington New Zealand 2009").

What an awesome day! I saw so many smiling faces, enjoyed loads of generosity, realised how huge one car parking space really is, and I have a warm glow from having so many friendly interactions with diverse people in my city who I normally don't interact with. Those of us who stayed on the street for the whole day are also very grateful to our new friends in shops/offices nearby who brought us cups of tea and made us feel welcome. Great work Wellycats!
