Oh, and having New Zealanders think that they're the best in the world, when really the country is getting left further and further behind. It is such a depressing prospect. I think some "100% pure shit" = ) advertising, both in NZ and abroad would go a long way!

All the time. Just been to Iceland where I think they have the same problem. Went to a Bjork/Sigur Ros concert protesting the construction of an extensive hydro project and Aluminium smelter in the West fiords.
I think the Greens had the right idea with there statistical political campaign about lowland rivers etc. countering tourism NZ's 100% pure advertising. I think a reputation for sustainability needs to be earned and not assumed

Does anyone else have the experience of often having to explain that New Zealand isn't an environmental paradise?
