Hi Guys, I received this today:
"A year or so ago, we held an art exhibition for The Family Centre in
Romania. Part of this evening we held a parade of "upcycled" garments
which were sold and the proceeds went to the Centre.

As a follow-on from this night, in Feb 2010, we are running an "upcycle"
design training school to teach those interested in fashion how to upcycle,
using their own garments. We would also like to explore whether you want to
keep upcycling garments and start to sell what you produce and perhaps even
start your own range of "upcycled" clothes.
This 10 week course has 2 time slots to choose from - Wednesday 10 - 12
noon OR Wednesday 7 - 9pm.
The cost is $100 for the 10 weeks. There will be a $50 deposit and options
can be offered to pay the remaining $50 throughout the 10 weeks. A % of
these fees will go to the Family Centre in Romania."

The Topp Twins @ Junk2Funk on Waiheke last weekend.
More pix on my blog martin-adlington.blogspot.com
The speech i gave on behalf of the judges:
"On behalf of the judges I would like to congratulate Dorte Wray & everyone involved in the fabulous show that has been Junk2Funk 2009.
Shows of this nature are particularly difficult to judge, as the effort put in by all the entrants has obviously been considerable. We would therefore like to make the point that the winning of prizes is not everything - what is more important is that all the entrants have shown themselves to be true Zero waste heroes this weekend by demonstrating their heartfelt & genuine concern for the environment.
Art offers tremendous potential for personal growth & expression, as well as being a powerful catalyst for social change.
It is becoming increasingly obvious the human activities are threatening both our survival as a species as well as the health of our planet earth.
We need to change our ways of thinking which have brought about the whole mess of climate change, unsustainable farming practices, pollution, & wasteful plundering of the earth’s resources.
Unfortunately no answers have been forthcoming so far from our leaders - the UN, the World Bank, Wall St, Westminster, The US Congress, nor our own beehive.
However, as if often the case - the solutions lie in the hands of the people. Recycled art is a perfect example of the ingenuity & creative thinking of which our world is so much in need.
New paradigms are needed, & artworks such as we have seen tonight are powerful visual metaphors for new ways of thought & being in the world.
I would therefore like to congratulate Clean Stream Waiheke & the waste Resource Trust for their most inspirational leadership 7 vision for a Brave New World of sustainability & hope.
Junk to funk proves once again that “Waiheke does It Better”!"
