This is a space for people to share info on cycling in our cities. What are leading cities in the world doing to promote cycling? What's happening closer to home? How can we make cycling safer? What actions can we take to make NZ a better place to bike?

Kia Ora free wheelin' Wellingtonians!

Come along to one of the sassy Frocks on Bikes events planned for the Summer season. Here's one to start you off (more on the website!):

Pedalling into a summer of two-wheeled action, Frocks on Bikes brings you the excursion of the season: Flock to selected emporia around Wellington whose wares are funky, original, tasty, stylish, sustainable and generally delightful… just like us! Delectable destinations include Juniper, Duncan and Prudence, Emma, Pixel Ink, and the lovely Newtown People’s Market.

Check out the website for meeting spots.

Discounts! Frocks! Cycling! Sustainable shopping! Sweet treats! ‘Nuf said.

A Cycling Prayer, by Steve Muir

Creator of all life,
we give thanks for this opportunity to ride our bikes.
We give thanks for the technology that’s frees us rather than enslaves us,
for derailers and gear shifters, tyres and brakes,
the creativity of the human mind that enables us to participate in this experience.
We give thanks for the weather,
the sun that softens our confusion,
the rain that drenches us with peace,
the wind that dances with our mysteries,
the clouds that sculpt your enveloping love
We give thanks for this time to sweat, to vent the frustrations of the last week.
We give thanks for the freedom of the journey,
the simplicity of the road,
the quietness of the hills.
May we experience the beauty of your world,
your healing in our souls,
and your challenge to live life in all its fullness.
Amen.

arrrgghh!!! the Herald comments are infuriating! especially when i opted today to take public transport for the 1st time in quite some time and it took me almost an hour to get from home to work (a 10 minute bike ride).

Thanks Su Yin for your rebuttal. there needs to be a behavioural paradigm shift. cycling is NOT simply recreation. it is an active form of transportation and, whereby some motorists become my health hazard when they try to squeeze me off the road, it's healthy exercise!! when did people become so angry and blind?!!

and how come so many people seem to have failed the SHARING component in kindergarden?? can't we all share the road and be careful for one another??

sorry.. i'm having a ranting day.

Glendowie Bicycle club and Frocks on Bikes have arranged a Spring Tweed Ride along Tamaki Drive this Saturday (3rd October). This is an ideal opportunity to show your support for cycling and the victims of this tragic accident. Please join us, either at Bike Central in the City at 1.30pm, or Reef Bar in Mission Bay at 2.30pm.
