An interesting short vid (2:46) from The Australia Institute on the proposed Australian ETS. Worth a watch, since NZ is taking its lead from Oz

Here's an event focused on one possible way to bring down transport emissions:

Sustainable Energy Forum Seminar

Electric Vehicles and Electric Transport in New Zealand: 2010 and
Beyond

When: Friday 6 November, 12.30-2pm

Where: Large Gallery, Turnbull House, 11 Bowen St, Wellington

Admission: By koha

Can we switch our transport system from burning fossil fuels to using electricity? If so, how quickly will it happen, and how much difference will it make to New Zealand's oil dependence and to greenhouse gas emissions from transport?

The Sustainable Energy Forum (SEF) is holding a seminar in Wellington on Friday 6 November to talk about these issues. Speakers will discuss developments in electric vehicle technology, the opportunities and difficulties in marketing electric vehicles, and the effect that widespread use of electric transport is likely to have on New Zealand's electricity system. There will be plenty of time for questions and discussion.

If you're interested in transport, vehicle technology, green jobs, oil depletion, or climate change, you'll find something of interest in this SEF Seminar.

Updates will be posted at http://www.sef.org.nz/conferences.html#2009

Big-Ups the Wellington Crew!

It was indeed a supreme day, and despite some nasty sunburn the vibe was joy and the people were receptive and smiley. Special mentions to the Batucada Crew and the Real Hot Bitches for getting the crowd amped and keen for the huge kiwi!

w00t!

What a wonderful day! Well done New Zealand for all the impressive events. Stuff.co.nz put a short media blurb on our big kiwi squaking "350!" Have a look and get us in the top list of viewed pages: Shaping the future

For anyone who is keen to ride their bike to the climate action festival from the Southern suburbs, join the alternative cycle ride: Round and Round the Bays. Check the details here:

Is anybody else here interested in kayaking as a zero-emission commute across Wellington Harbour?

I've been doing it for a while now, launching from Balaena Bay (in Evans bay) and chaining up at the pontoon outside Ferg's at Queen's Wharf. However, this is not ideal for Ferg's, as they use the pontoons to run their business, and are basically doing me a favour.

I don't think it would take much to get local government to set up a little spot where people could tie up their kayaks during the day. I could even come across on the weekends, tie up, get changed and do my shopping or meet my friends for a few hours before coming home the same way.

I just want to gauge how many other people might be supportive of this idea.

Kia ora mai tatou,
~JamesM
