Intersect

Young Professionals - Leading the Change

Is anyone in wellington keen to help kick start an Intersect only toastmaster's club? It's an awesome way to gain some valuable skills and I think Intersectors would add a special something to the learning environment.

I just had a chat with their marketing coordinator today and have all the details about what we need to do.

Personally I'd love to be part of a club with members who are passionate about increasing their skills and changing the world, if you're interested then post up and if we get enough numbers for a core group we can start to get some initial meetings together.

cheers,
Joshua

So Joshua - you know that I love this idea. I was wondering if we could extend it to include things like learning to write a killer media release, talking in sound bytes (when someone shoves a camera in your face), Mic Techniques (for launching events) Megaphone techniques (for rallying troupes) writing a killerstory and potentially even skills around launching a campaign.

What are other peoples thoughts? are there any other related toastmastery techniques that we could incorporate or are people adamant that these should be separate?

Yup, I'm interested. I was going to go along to the next TM evening at any rate, as I've been thinking about joining for a while now.

An Intersect TM would be cool!

I think this is genius and I know several people off the top of my head who'd be in like Flynn. A 'how to do nifty soundbites' would be great - I second all Megan's suggestions. Communicating tricky science things in 'bites would be something I'd find super-useful.

Let's keep things simple to get underway. It would be great to develop media savvy, but Toastmasters appeals to me because it starts with basic public speaking practice and builds from there. Plain old speaking confidence is a few steps back from speaking to the media, and far less daunting. Maybe we can become more ambitious later.

Those are my two cents. Josh, I can offer a venue if you're looking (preferably shared with somewhere else to distribute the responsibility a little).

Great idea! Anyone want to start one in the Waikato?
Let me know, and we can get it happening.

Got a whole lot out of Toastmasters a few years back before being a political candidate. Highly recommended.

great, can we have someone's laptop going with the camera switched on beaming out to the coast? population of the total region over here on the coast is about one wellington city block ...suffice to say toastmasters doesn't appear to be a fixture over on the west ... yet!

This is a fantastic idea.

Basic skills that build confidence and, for those that are ready, those special skills and techniques proposed by Megan.

When can we start?

Any advances being made on this? Or is everyone too caught up in the 350 Buzz...? :)
