It has come to my attention recently, through moving houses myself and seeing friends move that a lot of us own large numbers of books! Which has made me think about all the books I buy, which unfortunately brings to question all those trees. Luckily however a lot of my books are second hand. Awhile ago I found this website and I really want to share it with everyone.
http://www.betterworldbooks.com/
This is possibly the most awesome online book store i've ever come across. It sells both new and used books to all over the world. The shipping is only $4 per item which is quite reasonable as a blanket rate no matter how big or heavy the book. They have an excellent range of books and offer carbon offsetting on the shipping price, support literacy programme across the globe and donate money to various charities. They also help stop books going to landfill with a count on their website of 25, 981, 440 currently.
From their website they also say:
"Here’s the best part: In addition to selling new titles, Better World Books supports book drives and collects used books and textbooks through a network of over 1,600 college campuses and partnerships with nearly 1,000 libraries nationwide. So far, the company has converted more than 25 million donated books into $6.5 million in funding for literacy and education. In the process, we’ve also diverted more than 13,000 tons of books from landfills.

Because we believe that most every book has lasting value and the potential to help change the world, we see our job as helping to find new homes for unwanted books. Thus far, we’ve donated nearly one million books to partner programs around the world. Our five primary literacy partners are Books for Africa, Room to Read, Worldfund, the National Center for Family Literacy, and Invisible Children. Good company, no doubt. "
So if you like books, have a look at the website, I love it and regularly buy from them!
