In early September, 5 'Sustainability Heroes' were brought to New Zealand to present their stories and ideas at the Better by Design CEO summit. Speakers included Ray Anderson, Michael Braungart, Janine Benyus, Lee Weinstein and Alex Steffen.

We thought that it was imperative that there were some young people there, but the ticket price was very high (for young professionals embarking on their careers). So thanks to the support of Interface NZ and Better by Design, We successfully recruited 5 fantastic young people to attend the summit. They each wrote about the highlights of one of the speaker's presentations, and we have compiled them in a pdf so that you can get the best bits without having to be there. We will posting videos from the speakers in the next couple of weeks.

I would have been lost with out Intersect!

Back in August 2008 I initiated my search for an internship in New Zealand related to design and life cycle thinking. Today I am working for Icebreaker to help them track their environmental performence.
Through the international Green Drinks website I found Megan Hosking, checked out Altos website, found her cell number and gave her a call. Megan advised me to create a profile on Intersect and insured me that it would lead to something good. She was right!
I did not find my internship through intersect, but I got in contact with a number of people who have helped me in numerous ways during my stay in New Zealand and in my work for Icebreaker. Through intersect I found professional advice, I found friends, I attended great events, I found shelter, I found spiritual inspiration and I found love.
I wish to thank Richard Morley-Hall, Nick Potter, Megan Hosking, Anthony Hume, Carl Chenery, Freda Wells and Aaron Packard. I would have been lost with out you!

it was so exciting to meet some of you frock-stars at the Freeze. i recently moved here from Vancouver, Canada, and have felt quite lonley. i knew my people were here...somewhere, i just couldn't find them.

one particularly drizzly, grey, craptastically chilly day, i parked my bike on the Terrace. when i came back a few hours later, there was of the gorgeous and charming Frocks on Bikes cards tucked into my helmet. i felt elated and joyful--like when i got my first love letter.

Not knowing people (let alone like-minded people) as a direct consequence of not being from around here, and in the isolation of doing a Ph.D., Intersect helped me to pin-spot some awesome people who share a similar vision for the future and a similar outlook in life. I am sure I'll be doing some collaborative projects with some of these people in the future.

Intersect also encouraged me to start a network in my home country in order to bring together professionals who work in the area of sustainable design/production/consumption, something which I wanted to do for five years but has been disheartened for several reasons. It's quite new with some 40 plus, so-far "silent/non-active/you do it and I'll watch you" members, and not very vibrant at the moment but the potential is there and it excites me heaps. So, as much as it is great for New Zealand, Intersect is also a great model which can be used in other contexts by people who'd like to bring self-organised and beautifully emergent change...

And, oh, I was also one of the five lucky people who won a discounted ticket to attend the 2008 Better by Design CEO Summit and had the great opp to listen to some giant names that I have been following in the past 8 years in sustainable design area live... So, yay to the Intersect!

Grey Lynn Farmers' Market are most grateful to the Intersect team. Through the Green Drinks we got two of our most active and involved members that have been vital to our success: Guy Shrubsole and Christoph Vischer.

We also met our Engineering (Resource Consent) Consultants through the good folk at Intersect.

There are few organisations like Intersect and I have a lot of respect as I know how much work it takes.

Hi Intersect Peeps!

I have a success story. I was invited by a friend to join intersect. Once I had joined I also joined the "Auckland" group and got a nice sunny WELCOME message from a member called Jasmine. I noticed on her profile that she, like me, was living in Grey Lynn. I also noticed she was new in town.

I messaged her back and invited her on a coffee date to chat about "sustainability stuff". It happened, we had a blast, and at the end of coffee Jasmine mentioned there was a job going at her work. I wasn't so much looking, but I certainly was interested once I found out it was at the Sustainable Business Network.

I've been Communications Manager ever since.

Thanks Jasmine! And thanks 'Intersect'. Isn't social networking great?!

I found a whole new world and web of like minds - it was like a huge breath of fresh air! Intersect has - from my observations and experience - facilitated an interconnected community of ever-more active leaders and change agents, having a great time along the way.

With fellow intersecters I have championed creating and seeding the reappropriation of Queen's Birthday - www.NZLANDDay.org.nz, am currently part of the steering committee for NZ Youth Delegation- www.youthdelegation.org.nz, have been to many amazing events, seen videos posted and learnt alot from sifting through the group discussions.

It is such an exciting, significant time to be alive - and young- and it's so invaluable and important to 'intersect' with others who share these views.

Intersect led us the way to a great community of like minded, fun loving, and progressive group of people.

New to the country and in a new city looking for things to do we luckily found Intersect. It provided us a great list of things to do in and around Auckland that we could find anywhere else - printed or online. Moving to a new place is always difficult and scary - Intersect led us to the stores, the events, and the people we wanted to find in our new community.

Since first logging on to meet up with 350.org events, now 8 months ago, we have been active within the Intersect community. Helping to start up a Youth Delegation to the Copenhagen COP 15 meeting in December and supporting online development of 350.org among other sites - all of which has been facilitated through Intersect.

Thanks for being there and I hope that others new to NZ will find Intersect just as helpful and awesome as we did.
